一、Job content

  1. The Job of Teaching Assistant for “Freshman English Course”
    1. Preparation Before Class
      1. See if the lecturers need the roll call list.
      2. Be familiar with the facilities before class (including the operation of the e-table and all kinds of video recorder) and make sure all the related administrative supportive work are done. Open the door before class so that students who arrived early can enter, and make sure if the lecturer and the students need other assistance.
      3. Help prepare handouts and material, have them copied and hand out to the students.
      4. After teacher’s permission, upload the class material to e-learning system and guide the students to download them.
      5. Discuss course design and class leading (deliberate and work with the lecturer)
      6. Help the lecturer do the roll call, and be accurately aware of the number of students.
    2. In class
      1. Need to be in class for the entire lecture for the teacher and students to know where you are. Be aware of the class situation at all times, observe the needs of both parties carefully, and give a helping hand actively (e.g. help reserve handout if students are late.)
      2. Lead the students to have group discussion.
      3. Fill in the class record sheet. If lecture time changes, please write clearly in the sheet.
      4. Make sure the number of attendance and absence.
      5. Take photos if there are any activities in class.
      6. Help students with English oral practice, final report……etc.
    3. After class
      1. Clean the blackboard and check if students have left their belongings in the drawers or on the desks. Ask the students to keep the classroom clean and not to leave any trash. If there are posters used in class, remember to tear them off. If the classroom is followed by no other lessons, turn off the power switches (lights and air-conditioners).
      2. Return class equipment and lock the doors and windows.
      3. If the lecturer assigned homework, articles to be previewed or other works, TAs should remind students after class and update the information on E-learning system.
      4. If the students have any questions about the course, course requirement and learning in general, please try to offer warm assistance and response, and also maintain close contact and communication with the teacher.
      5. If there is an emergency, please fill out the emergency record sheet clearly.
      6. Answer the questions on the social media group regularly.
      7. Group presentation feedback sheet: In order to track the progress of each group, set a deadline or check weekly.
    4. End of school term
      1. Organize the students’ attendance records and provide the lecturer as the grading reference.
      2. Attend the final meeting at the end of the semester and complete the TA self-assessment form and the Multiculturalism Scale Form.
    5. Attention
      1. Keep the TA Job Instruction carefully. Do not discard it.
      2. Offer the students contact information to inquire about the course related issues.
      3. Keep in touch with the lecturer. Make sure the lecturer can always find the teaching assistant.
      4. Attend the classes and pay attention to the class. If the teacher and students need assistance, offer help immediately. If students have any opinions or questions, report back to the Office.
      5. Complete the class record sheet, organize them and hand in to the office monthly.
      6. If the classes are cancelled or switched, please inform the students of the details immediately as well as the Office.
      7. The Office has the right to reserve or withdraw the position of the teaching assistant if the teaching assistant’s working attitude or performance does not meet the requirement of lecturers and the Office.
Remark: Teaching assistants who did not attend (participated in) the workshop in school have to make up for the classes, but the hours do not count as attendance hours.
